Cherished Illusions are accumulated by the introduction of the imaginations of ourselves and of others. So the thoughts and ideas of the ungodly or Scripturally ignorant seep into the lives of those of this world and, most assuredly and unfortunately, even into the lives of saints. Therefore, we are reminded, by Scriptural reference, to indoctrinate ourselves by the Word of God. Further, in order to deter us from holding on to axioms or truisms that fail the test of scriptural reference, we are instructed to Study the Scriptures. The Scriptures should also prevent us from picking up again the thoughts, habits, and behavior of the past and keep us from adopting, in the future, philosophical ideas of the world.
Interesting enough, worldly ideas have crept into the mainstream of church doctrine and ignorantly adopted, most often, due to its appearance to comply with godliness and many times with references to the scriptures to substantiate its validity. It is most sinister!
Colossians 2:8
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
